AAP Textbook of Pediatric Care

myPCO

Quickly revisit your favorite and most viewed PCO Web pages by saving them in myPCO, a personalized bookmarking system built right into the platform. To do so, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the page you would like to save.
  2. Click "Save to myPCO" within the Content Manager box in the upper right.
  3. "Topic has been saved to myPCO" will appear at the top of the page.

To revisit all your saved pages:

  1. Click "myPCO" on the Home Page or the top menu bar.
  2. When the myPCO page appears, click on the name of the Web page you would like to view located under "Record".

User Tip #3
Interactive Periodicity Schedule

Quickly find recommendations for each well-child visit with these four easy steps:

  1. Click on Interactive Periodicity Schedule under Tools on the Home Page or click on Tools in the top menu bar and use the drop-down menu.
  2. Click on the well-child age visit you would like to view.
  3. The well-visit will be broken into two tables of recommendations: Perform and Assess Risk.
  4. Click on links within the recommendations to view additional related information.

User Tip #4
Signs & Symptoms Search

Narrow your search within the AAP Point-of-Care Quick Reference by entering and/or choosing symptoms.

  1. Click on Signs & Symptoms Search under Tools on the Home Page or click on Tools in the top menu bar and use the drop-down menu.
  2. Type the symptom in the Quick Lookup box and hit Enter or click on the symptom within the list. The symptom will appear in the Selected Signs & Symptoms to the right.
  3. Enter additional symptoms as needed.
  4. Point-of-Care Quick Reference topics matching these symptoms will appear in the Matches from Quick Reference Topics box in the lower right.
  5. Click on the topic title to view.

User Tip #5
Point-of-Care Quick Reference

Use the Quick Reference to quickly find concise and top-line information for point-of-care decision-making. This resource takes 241 chapters from the AAP Textbook of Pediatric Care and distills the information in a bulleted format, eliminating the need to hunt for the information, such as definition, background, epidemiology, evaluation, interventions, etc.

  1. Click on Point-of-Care Quick Reference under Library on the Home Page or click Library in the top menu bar and use the drop-down menu.
  2. Once in the Quick Reference, use the alphabet bar to find the topic for which you are looking.
  3. Once in the topic, click on the subsection (in the left menu) you would like to view. To view the entire chapter, click on the chapter title at the top of the left menu or click on Display all Sections in the Content Manager box on the far right.

Mobile Devices – Blackberry and iPhone

View PCO in its entirety on your Blackberry or iPhone. You do not need to download or install anything to access PCO on these two mobile devices. The full site is optimized for browsing on such devices, using all major platforms, giving live access to the site and full functionality. To access the site on your Blackberry or iPhone, type the PCO url (www.pediatriccareonline.org) in the browser.

Refer to Bright Futures to help you provide better health care, save time, and keep up with changes in family, communities, and society that impact child health.

  1. Click on Bright Futures under Library on the Home Page or click on Library in the top menu bar and use the drop-down menu.
  2. Once in the Bright Futures Table of Contents, click the chapter title you wish to view. Note:
    • Most chapter titles (denoted by ) will open in an expanded view showing all the subsections of that chapter. Simply click on the title of the subsection you want to view.
    • If you would like to view the entire chapter, click on the chapter title instead of a subsection title or click on Display all Sections in the Content Manager box on the far right.

Use the Bright Futures pocket guide as quick reference tool and training resource. View summaries of the following topics for each well-child visit: development observation, physical examination, medical screening, immunizations, and anticipatory guidance. Also view four all-new appendices: medical screening tables, resources, screening tools, and sample scripts.

  1. Click on Library in the top menu bar and use the drop-down menu to select Bright Futures Pocket Guide (you will notice that it is not listed on the Home Page under Library).
  2. Once on the Bright Futures Pocket Guide Table of Contents, click the chapter title you wish to view.
